A FCT High Court in Maitama on Thursday ordered the trial-within-trial in a culpable homicide charge slammed on a 37-year-old, Mathew Ankyoor, who allegedly killed his wife.

Justice Peter Affen, who gave the order, said it was necessary to ascertain the veracity of the statements made by the accused.

Men of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arrested an Islamic cleric, Alfa Kayode Abdul-Fatai in Alakuko area of the State over alleged illegal possession of human parts, including a female private organ.

The suspect, who was arrested at No. 4, Okedumola Street, off Obadare area of Alakuko, was said to have also been caught with female heart and a female lap.

Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji who replaced Funke Akindele on cast list of upcoming superhero movie, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ has been eliminated .

DAILY POST reported that Akindele’s name was published on popular movie review website, IMDB, where it revealed she will act alongside international movie stars, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth, in Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Infinity Wars’.

According to IMDB, Akindele was to play a member of the Dora Milaje, a team of women who serve as personal bodyguards of the Black Panther, the spiritual leader of Wakanda. 

However, a check on the official website on Monday showed that Funke’s name has been deleted from the cast list and replaced with Genevieve Nnaji who will be playing same role, Dora Milaje.

However, at the early hours of Tuesday the website eliminate Genevieve too as a cast in the movie.

As of the time of filling this report, both actresses are yet to speak on the development.

Police Arrest A Banker For Child Abuse


The image of an 11-year-old housemaid, Precious Nwafor, locked up in the house by her boss who travelled to her village for the Yuletide, reignited the discourse on the increasing abuse of children in the state.

But on Friday, the police broke the news that the boss, a banker, Nkechinyere Nwajagu, has now been apprehended.

Nwajagu told investigators that she is a native of Ajali in Orumba Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Neighbours alerted law enforcement agents when they found the girl locked up in the house all by herself at 12 Baderin Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos.

The child was locked up in a poorly ventilated room without food.

The alert by neighbours prompted the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Edgal Imohimi, to lead a team to rescue the girl.

At the scene, Imohimi, ordered that the iron bars on the windows be cut open to help extricate the child.

The child, who is from the same state as Nwajagu, said she was brought to work as a housemaid in Lagos with a promise of better life.

The police have handed her over to the Social Welfare Department of the Lagos state Government.

On Friday, Nwajagu was said to have reported herself at the Makinde Police Station, Oshodi. She was detained and later transferred to the Human Rights Section of Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.

According to the suspect, it was her elder sister, who brought the girl from the village and left her in her care when she travelled home for Christmas.

She said she had no choice but to lock the child in anytime she went to work until she returned at night.

Nwajaguwas subsequently charged to court and arraigned on charges of child abuse and unlawful detention.

Meanwhile, Imohimi has warned against the abuse of children and women in the state. He said the command would keep an eye out for the abuse of vulnerable members of the society and would not hesitate to prosecute culprits.

Kwara State Polytechnic Reduce Tuition Fees



Kwara state Joint Executive-Legislative Committee on alleged hike in the tuition fees of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has recommended a reduction in fees.

The new fees will affect both indigene and non indigene students of the institution.

Addressing reporters on Thursday in Ilorin, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, said that the decision to reduce the tuition fees was based on need to reflect policy of the state government on making education affordable to students.

MAPOLY lecturers suspend three months strike

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta Chapter, on Wednesday suspended their strike, which is now over three months old.

JAMB to register twenty million Candidate for UTME

 
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar Prof Ishaq Oloyede has said no fewer than 200 million candidates are expected to register for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

Prof Oloyede declared that the examination body returned N7.8 billion to the Federal Government coffers from the proceeds of examination forms sold in 2017.

The conclusion of the sale process of 9mobile has been postponed till January 16, 2018, by both the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Communications Commission. 

The extension of the deadline was approved by the authorities following a letter written by the board of directors of 9mobile, asking for the extension, according to a report by the Cable.

I join my fellow citizens this morning to welcome and celebrate the New Year 2018. This year promises to be pivotal in our quest for CHANGE.

Unfortunately, I am saddened to acknowledge that for many this Christmas and New Year holidays have been anything but merry and happy. Instead of showing love, companionship and charity, some of our compatriots chose this period to inflict severe hardship on us all by creating unnecessary fuel scarcity across the country.
